With the advancement of vaccination and the availability of new drugs, Covid-19 is losing strength and is kicking off the revival of the (still lame) life we once knew.
This recovery can already be seen in the skies: air routes have reconnected countries, with people traveling for business, studying, seeing relatives and friends and, above all, “tourists” – even if this coming and going is a must. face mask, treatment is still necessary because the pandemic, according to the WHO (World Health Organization), is not over.
These new movements outside Brazil have strongly brought protection that has always been part of the traveler’s life, but, in the last two years, has been overwhelmed by the coronavirus: travel insurance.
Travel insurance is already self-explanatory: it is a cover that protects the traveler from any unforeseen events during his trip in the national territory or in another country. And it is an important mechanism not only for air travel, but also for (sea) and land cruises.
Taking on this type of insurance has skyrocketed in 2022. As of the first quarter of this year, the mode experienced a 219% increase in the number of closed policies compared to the same period last year, according to data. of CNseg (National Confederation of Insurance Companies).
The body representing the insurers says that the good performance of travel insurance is a direct consequence of the “resumption of international flights with the relaxation of the restrictions imposed by most countries”, according to an excerpt from a note sent to InfoMoney.
It is a fact! Brazil has already reached 90% of the pre-pandemic level of its domestic demand and has been responsible for the recovery of the aviation sector in South America, according to a recent analysis by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The country has relaxed entry rules for travelers. From April it is only necessary to prove that you are vaccinated against the coronavirus without the need for a PCR test (the most reliable test for the detection of Covid-19) to land on the national territory from an international flight. For Iata, the rule change has attracted airlines, which are reintegrating Brazil into their routes.
The recovery, however, is still long: in March 2019 there were 2,075 international routes and 1,970 domestic routes in the Americas. In the same month of 2022 there were 1,684 international routes and 1,868 domestic routes, with a loss of 493 routes across the region, according to IATA.
But already the good wind of aviation positively interferes in the performance of insurers with the growth of travel insurance searches, an element required by most countries for the reception of foreigners.
To enter one of the European Union countries that are part of the Schengen Treaty, for example, the tourist must have a minimum insurance of 30 thousand euros to cover medical assistance in the event of illness or injury.
“This performance encourages companies managing this insurance which today can be easily contracted through digital means and which is affordable for all travelers,” says CNseg.
