2022 Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge Semifinals Results and Recap: Who’s Going to Madison?

On the weekend of May 27-29, the 2022 CrossFit Semifinals continued across two continents: the CrossFit Fittest in Cape Town in Stellenbosch, South Africa and the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge in Knoxville, TN in North America. The second round of Semifinals saw some of the most famous athletes in the sport making it to one of the most famous Semifinals in sport: the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge, affectionately known as the MACC.

The 2021 MACC hosted the three champions of the 2021 CrossFit Games: Tia-Clair Toomey, Justin Medeiros, and the Mayhem Freedom team. In 2022, Toomey absolutely dominated the first weekend of the Semifinals. The five-time Fittest Woman on Earth® won every event in the Torian Pro. Mederios and Mayhem Freedom emerged victorious in their own Semifinal that first weekend, the Syndicate Crown.

But there were still plenty of dominant athletes to crush at this year’s MACC. Brooke Wells, Danielle Brandon, Noah Ohlsen, Cole Sager and Saxon Panchik helped make MACC 2022 a fight worth tuning into.

General classification of the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge 2022

Although last year’s champions crushed Torian Pro and Syndicate Crown to kick off the 2022 Semifinals, the stakes were high heading into the 2022 MACC. Eight-time Games mainstay Ohlsen made it to the final day of competition between the top five, which left many wondering if he would be able to climb high enough to secure his place at the 2022 Games. But placed second in both final events, earning fourth place and a ticket to the Games.

On the women’s side, Wells continued her triumphant return to elite competition after requiring reconstructive elbow surgery. She finished fifth in the world at the 2022 CrossFit Open and showed no signs of stopping her rise during the MACC. Wells finished 24th in the 2014 Regional Event 5 reenactment, but placed first in Midline Sadness, third in The MACC Mile, and second in Hardcore Parkour for a fourth place overall and a stamped ticket to Madison.

2022 Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge Event Results

Danielle Brandon, a three-time Games veteran, ranked 11th in the Games last year and made it through plenty of workouts at the MACC, coming first in the three events that ended the weekend. Canada’s Sydney Michalyshen made her first appearance at the 2021 Games, placing 25th overall. She put in a strong performance in the Semifinals, taking a first place finish at the 2014 Regional Event 5, second at the Barbell Complex, and working her way into the top five in the final two events of the weekend. She took home second place overall and her second ticket to the Games.

On the men’s side, Dallin Pepper and Saxon Panchik each only ranked lower than fifth once. Saxon Panchik took home first place in three of the six events and the weekend’s overall win. On the other hand, Pepper never took first place, but he secured second place overall by never finishing below seventh. Luis Oscar Mora from Mexico put in a great performance, taking a strong draw to first place at the Barbell Complex and fifth in 2014 Regional Event 5. Ultimately, he finished 12th, which isn’t enough to earn a ticket to this year’s Games.
